Addicted to Apps: How Mobile Phones Change Consumer Behaviors [Infographic]

93% mobile phone users in Spain are addicted to apps, according to the 2013 Mobile App Behavior survey by Apigee, a provider of API technology and services for enterprises and developers. The study, conducted by uSamp, surveyed 760 smartphone owners across France, Germany, Spain, the U.K. and the U.S.. Not massive numbers, considering the broad spectrum of users, but interesting nevertheless, especially concerning app dependency, behavior and future desires across a variety of countries.

Spain may be leading the pack, with 93% dependency on apps, but overall, the surveyed countries show a 82% dependency on apps they use daily: email 51%; Facebook 41%; and clocks 31%.

The survey goes deeper, revealing how each country feels about smartphones in relation to children. Thus 75% users globally believe that the appropriate age for a child to receive a smart device would be somewhere between the ages of 12 and 16. 2% of Germans would give a one-year-old child a smartphone, and 6% of people in the U.S. and Spain say parents should wait until kids reach the age of 18 before giving them their first smartphone.

Interesting for operating systems, “pride” appears to be the main reason why some users don’t switch to other devices. Overall iPhone, Android, Blackberry and Windows users say it’s pride that keeps them from switching (29%), followed by lack of apps on other platforms (24%), lack of desire to learn a new type of phone (23%) and fear of needing to re-enter all contacts and phone numbers (22%).
