Saying the stars have embraces Twitter is a bit of an understatement. The promote themselves, their products, their friends, and they compete for the millions of followers this social network has to offer, spotlighting their careers and lives to get all the attention they can. And nothing seems to interest more those who follow stars on Twitter than their personal lives.
That’s probably why Elizabeth Hurley chose Twitter to let her fans know her marriage was over and that she had separated from her husband.
That’s right, the British actress and model broke the news of her separation from businessman Arun Nayar on Twitter. And thanks to Reuters, we also have the original tweet announcing the three-year marriage being over:
“Not a great day. For the record, my husband Arun & I separated a few months ago. Our close family & friends were aware of this.”
45-year-old Elizabeth Hurley is not only a star, she’s also a business woman, running her own swimwear business. It is not surprising she can understand the power of Twitter and what a big hype her making a public statement in less than 140 characters would create. The magazines and news outlets will pick it, followers will retweet it, it could actually work a lot better than a formal statement issued by her representatives.
Hurley was well known for her long relationship with British actor Hugh Grant and their rocky life together has brought them a lot of press. Seems like she is capitalizing on the huge attraction of personal hot details again, now that her marriage is over. After a big wedding in 2007 at Sudeley Castle in western England followed by a traditional Hindu ceremony in the historic Indian city of Jodhpur, the relationship certainly needed to end publicly as well!
