Today the two toughest cricket teams in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup battle for supremacy. India versus Sri Lanka, hosts versus co-hosts, two fantastic cricket clubs, what could be better? In a few moments Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai will be rocking with the noise as these two teams square off. Stick with us for the live scores and updates as before, or check the game streams we have listed to watch via the Internet. This is the one we’ve all waited for.

Hey, we would also like to thank each and every one of you for enjoying these matches here with us so far. It has been our great pleasure to share them with all of you. And now for a bit of analysis and my prediction for today. So far Phil is 12 and 1, my only failed prediction being India whipping Pakistan.

The Edge

For the basics of how these teams match up lets start with batting. Without sounding as if I am bailing out on this subject, it should be clear to anyone that at bat these teams are dead even. India, as we have seen, is likely to score quicker – and lose some wickets doing so. Sri Lanka has to prevent Tendulkar and Co. from surging like they did versus Pakistan early on. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, is all about their middle order. India needs to stifle this group of batsmen.

Where bowling is concerned, clearly Sri Lanka has an advantage on paper. They have conceded fewer runs, 1328 runs in 7 innings versus India’s 1996 runs in 8 innings. Sri Lanka edges out India in several other metrics where bowling is concerned too. But, for the same reasons I have not been over-analytical in the past games of the tournament – there is no need here either.
I missed one prediction so far in this tournament, and because I underestimated one aspect of India v Pakistan – the steady example Tendulkar brings to an already stable team. Pakistan, despite their fire and potential – seemed stunned and psyched in the semi – and they lost because of India’s better composure. And so.

If Sri Lanka can keep a cool head (and not drop Sachin Tendulkar four times) they will win the 2011 ICC World Cup – and make history. If they lose their heads? Tendulkar and Co. will once again rise to the pinnacle of the cricket world. Like the Pakistan-India matchup, the match ended up being about players – Tendulkar versus his counterpart, Sachin clearly winning out. Today it is about Tendulkar versus T.M Dilshan – more or less. Whichever hero excels (or in the India Pakistan case maintains) that is the side that will win.

Out on the Limb

I am betting (along with about another billion peeps) Sri Lanka will not blow it. Don’t get me wrong, India is a superb team – confident and rock solid. But they should have lost to Pakistan the other day. The run total they put up was simply not high enough. They got very lucky in my view. Sorry, but think about this. Pakistan lost that game more than India won it. The odds of two world class teams choking? Sri Lanka by a nose here. Go ahead and argue. Either way, a fantastic cricket club will be champions, right?

Terror and Catastrophe Be Gone: Feeling Safe and Warm in Toasty Europe

This morning on the outskirts of Trier, Germany, we awoke positive and enthusiastic as ever. At noon, even despite the fact it is only 8 degrees Celsius, we still believe it when experts tells us Earth’s atmosphere and weather is just fine. The Gulf Stream is fine, we’re all just fine, and dandy too.

Eurovision 2013 and Why “What If” Won’t Ever Happen, Not Ever

This year’s Eurovision contest showed promise. Promise of human beings coming together in Europe, maybe across the world. Now, days after Denmark’s Emmelie de Forest, sanging the winning song in the finale, Only Teardrops the idea and ideology still enshrouds Europe. With Azerbaijan launching an investigation into its own voting schema, and an enrage Russian fan base, the Europe of medieval times just doesn’t seem so far off.
