An iPad event is set to take place this October 22, John Paczkowski of AllThingsD reported. According to the news, Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) will announce its fifth-generation iPad, and unveil the new iPad Mini 2. The rumors make sense, considering that both Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) and Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) have unveiled their tablets, and it’s been a year since the release of the iPad mini in 2012. Paczkowski speculates that the site of the Apple event will be the California Theatre in San Jose, where the iPad mini was initially unveiled.
There are many rumors surrounding the upcoming features of the new devices. Among them, that the iPad Mini 2 will come with 128GB worth of storage, and 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models will also be available. Earlier tech news speculate that the new Mini will receive Apple’s A6 processor, currently used in the iPhone 5C, or maybe a the A7 and M7 processors according to other rumors. The Touch ID security feature introduced in the iPhone 5S is also expected to be included in the updates, along with an eight-megapixel rear-facing camera.
It only makes sense to have an important Apple event with new product releases in October, to make these new items available for sale in November, the best selling month before the Christmas holidays. Black Friday 2013 and Cyber Monday 2013 are instrumental in boosting sales too. If the products are not available by November 1, Apple could potentially lose ground in front of competitors that already released their newest lines. Even Nokia is expected to reveal something new this October 22:

So far, you don’t need to mark October 22 as the Apple iPad event date, as the company declined to confirm it.
