For public relations to be successful, companies have to be as agile as possible. With changes in content development, media distribution, and media consumption coming fast and furious, brands and companies need to work on staying abreast of the most up-to-date media tools and technologies. Companies and organizations do need to ensure that they do not too far ahead of their clients and prospects.
They also have to be very careful when it comes to putting businesses out on social media. Businesses have to be genuine and real in how they communicate and not pretend to be something that they are not. Customers, especially millennials, can tell if businesses are not being sincere right away. Public relation businesses need to properly communicate with their clients, work very hard to show them what their purpose is, and show how what they do every day can really help society as a whole.
If public relations is deployed in the proper manner, can make a big difference for brands and set their products apart from the rest. The reason for this is that the long-established aspects of public relations- storytelling, handling problems, and creating relationships with customers, the press, and business partners have in the digital world.
In this day and age, customers do not want to be “sold” to. They want companies to discuss their values with them and embrace transparency. Basically, they want their public relations firm to be their friend. Just like Mr. Torossian said in his book For Immediate Release, “PR is a mix of journalism, psychology, and lawyering — it’s an ever-changing and always interesting landscape.”

Two of his favorite quotes is “Build It and They Will Come” and “Live an ethical, balanced life with honor, integrity, and laughter.” The other two quotes that he likes are from the book Samson “Tell them three things in my name, not two: Gather iron, anoint a king, and learn to laugh” and the very simple but accurate “There is no substitute for hard work.”
