Edelman’s New Report Shows Public Trust is Low
Fake news and lack of communication are having a negative impact on the public’s trust of US institutions from what Edelman’s 2018 Trust Barometer shows. It dropped 23 points from 2017, now standing at only 45 points. The extremity of the impact earned it a title from Edelman – “The Battle of Truth.” The online survey was done during the fall and had 33,000 people respond.
The drop in confidence was due to many factors including politics, mass shootings, political gridlock, response time to natural disasters, and way too much disinformation. From the opposite side, China’s institutions are now the most trusted by the general population. Stephen Kehoe, Edelman’s Global Chair of Reputation, said: “Essentially, [companies] become their own publishers of information. Packaging and putting information out using credentialed voices of authority, where we’ve seen an overall rise, those seem to be the way in which comms can [see] glimmers of hope in pushing the agenda forward.”
New President Named at W2O Group
Jennifer Gottlieb just named president of W2O Group’s marketing and communications network based in San Francisco. Gottlieb has been with the agency since 2006 serving in various leadership positions including COO and client service leader. She previously worked at Cohn & Wolfe as managing director, Makovsky as account supervisor, and Edelman as a senior account exec. Her duties in the newly created position include being in charge of WCG, Twist, and Pure for W2O.

Sevilla recently left her position as acting leader of US PR at EFG, an entertainment marketing and publicity agency, to open her own firm, Joyce Sevilla Public Relations – launch party was over the weekend at Avenue. New clients include The Sayers Club, 1iota Productions, and Beam Networks. In the past, she’s worked with Tinder, Marquee Dayclub (Vegas), JIVE Records – including their stars such as Backstreet Boys, and Britney Spears.
