HARO Connects UK Reporters with Local Sources

HAROSo far available only to US reporters, Help A Reporter Out (HARO), a service of Vocus (NASDAQ: VOCS) has finally opened up to UK reporters and sources.

HARO’s mission so far hasn’t failed. The brainchild of Peter Shankman, HARO established itself as a bridge between journalists and publicists; allowing journalists to find the sources they need, while allowing sources to reach journalists in a SPAM-free, socially connected way.

The service reports a growth of over 30000 users since its inception in 2008. Today, HARO fields upwards of 220 queries a day from 30,000 reporters and bloggers and filters them to more than 150,000 sources. With the launch in UK today, HARO will grow its database even more, enabling UK reporters to find relevant local sources faster, and more effectively.

To use HARO, reporters submit queries online and describe the sources they are seeking. Their queries are then published in an email newsletter that is distributed three times a day, five days a week, to sources who have subscribed. The sources are invited to respond – if they have expertise that matches the reporter’s request.

UK reporters are invited to submit queries the same way as US counterparts, but with special care to select the “UK” option under categories. This ensures that query will reach the appropriate sources.
