There are so many great PR firms out there, and NYC offers some of the best of them.
Here are some PR firms we wanted to write on Everything-PR:
Kwittken PR is headquartered in New York City, but also has offices in Toronto and London, and they consider themselves a communications agency. They state at their kwittken website, “We maintain a results-oriented, drama-free culture of highly energetic people with diverse backgrounds who are passionate about their work. Purposefully working within a wide variety of industries, our clients include American Express, P&G, Sharp Electronics, Target, Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate, International Paper, Vanguard, Virtus, and Amadeus (who recently issued a RFP.)”
This is a company we don’t think highly of – they have an oversized sense of importance, high-turnover and often do subpar work for clients. They are part of kbs+ and owned primarily by MDC Partners (who are also focusing many issues of their own.) Add Kwittken PR to the list of firms Everything-PR does NOT recommend.
Nasty Little Man PR represents musicians and bands and was founded in 1992 by Steve Martin. They are based in New York City. Some of their better-known clients include Radiohead, Foo Fighters, Paul McCartney, Beck, Eagles of Death Metal, and Lucious Jackson. At their website nastylittleman, they don’t bother talking about what they do or offer. Instead, they focus exclusively on the artists, campaigns from the past and what’s on the horizon.
The firm and its CEO, however, are willing to do Twitter battle on behalf of it’s clients if the need arises. When another Music PR guru recently posted she believed Beck had stolen an award right out of the waiting hands of one of her clients, Nasty Little Man’s Steve Martin issued a tweet in return. Both tweets were deleted almost immediately, but after apologizing for his rant, Martin also said, the win was “22 years coming, and we couldn’t be happier.”
M18 PR is a PR firm based in New York City and specializes in brand strategy, synergistic partnerships, crisis management, global media relations, business development support, online initiatives, and event planning/production. Their clients often come from the design, real estate, and hospitality sectors. The firm was founded by Michael Tavani and Meghan McGinnis.
About three-quarters of their current clients are in the real estate business and the other quarter offers a mix between design and hospitality. Some of their current clients include Flank, HFZ Capital, The Sidell Group, Extell Development, ASH NYC, DDG, Broadsky Organizations, Two Trees Development, and the NoMad Hotel.
Becca PR has offices in both New York City and Los Angeles. They work primarily with clients falling into the restaurant/chef, products/personalities, and hotels/real estate fields. Becca Parrish founded the company and brings more than 20 years of media expertise to the table. According to their Becca Public Relations website, they “believe that great PR is invisible. Our approach is elegant and stealthy. We enjoy being under the radar.”
They work with those well-established clients who’ve already made a name for themselves, and those just starting the process. But the list of clients who’ve done quite well for themselves is sizable and impressive, including establishments such as Craft, Lola, The Gray, Hearth, and Hotel on Rivington. Also personalities including Scott Conant, Michael Symon, April Bloomfield, and Melanie Dunea.
Goodman Media International Inc. is headquartered in New York City. Founded by Tom Goodman, the former head of CBS Inc. as well as CBS News, in 1997 – the company works with major corporations and non-profits dong large-scale media work. According to goodman, they “represent major media companies in television, radio, newspaper and magazine publishing, book publishing, and other areas of entertainment; electronics, retail, and other consumer companies; healthcare organizations; professional services firms in law, accounting and executive recruitment; business and trade groups; and not-for-profit organizations in the arts, education, and advocacy.”
They offer their clients services in media relations and publicity campaigns, product launches and event publicity, national advocacy campaigns, local market media outreach, multicultural, corporate, crisis communications, and social media and online campaigns. Some of the clients working with their 25 PR professionals include HBO, Neiman Marcus, SONY, GM, Hess, Redbook, and About.com.
The Magrino Agency specializes in lifestyle PR including the areas of travel and real estate, fashion, wine and spirits, home furnishings and design, beauty, health and wellness, and food. Their headquarters are in New York City, and the agency is led by Chairman and CEO, Susan Magrino, who founded the agency – after working for Crown Publishing for nine years – in 1992. The co-founder of the company and President and COO is Allyn Magrino, who brings depth to the company’s experience level, as well as fluency in speaking French, helpful with many of their clients.
Some of their clients include Ralph Lauren, the Hearst Corporation, The New York Times, the Smithsonian Institution, Hilton Paris Opera, Loews Regency, and Cloudy Bay. They are part of the IPREX network, allowing them access to sister companies around the world if their clients have a need outside the usual locations worked by Magrino.
If you are looking for a job in PR, or for representation, these are some firms to consider.
