More and more businesses are becoming LGBT-friendly. They are addressing issues relevant to the community and taking action across different platforms, from workplace policies to product advertising. Starbucks – Starbucks has been a supporter of the LGBTQ community for a long time. The company had widened the scope of its healthcare coverage to include gender reassignment surgery for partners who were considering transitioning. In 2014, Starbucks celebrated the 40th anniversary of Seattle Pride by hoisting an 800 square foot rainbow flag above its headquarters in Seattle . Through their partnership with Feeding America, they donate food and provide financial support to the company.
Amazon – Amazon has been ranked as one of the best LGBTQ-supportive workplaces. Pride Month is always a special time of celebration at Amazon, when the company celebrates the achievements of colleagues and customers from the community. The company has a LGBTQ employee affinity group called Glamazon, which works hard throughout the year to foster an open and inclusive work culture.
Apple – Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple , is an advocate for the LGBTQ company. He had tweeted about how Apple is open for everyone. The company believes in equal treatment of everyone regardless of who they love and it donates regularly to LGBTQ organizations.
Nordstrom – Nordstrom offers different products and experiences for the community. Its stores feature the collection of the brand Be Proud which features a range of silhouettes for people of all gender expressions. They have also started a partnership with the Phluid Project which features gender-free accessories including socks, bags, and hats. The Phluid Project is a gender free fashion brand and breaks the stereotype of the binary. The company also provides funding to LGBTQ organizations. They also included same-sex couples in one of their commercials and have sharedLGBTQ-friendly messages on social media platforms.
Levi’s – Levi’s has been a supporter of the LGBTQ community for decades. The brand remains dedicated to the cause of the community. The brand has proved itself to be a pioneer when it first donated money and resources during the AIDS crisis in the 80s. In 2018, the brand condemned the Department of Health’s threats to narrow down the definition of gender. Oreo – Oreo has launched a new Pride-themed pack which acts as a canvas for members of the LGBTQ community to share their words of pride. In order to foster inclusivity, the pack features a rainbow design and phrases like, ‘ You are too beautiful to hide.’ There is a writable space on the packet that gives everyone an opportunity to write their own words.
