Listening Campaign for LAUSD Division of Special Education

Project Overview:
The LAUSD Division of Special Education (Division) is launching a Listening Campaign to gather
valuable feedback from stakeholders to inform the Division’s strategic efforts in alignment with
LAUSD’s Strategic Plan. This project aims to engage with focus groups in order to collect, analyze, and
share information on student achievement and wellness, identify emergent themes, indicators of
success, and provide a summary of the collected data with action steps to be completed in a timely
manner.
Project Objectives:
Work with Division and LAUSD staff to gather feedback from various stakeholders regarding
opportunities and challenges that the District and Division should address to meet the outcomes for
students with disabilities.
Collect and analyze data on student achievement and wellness to inform decision-making.
Identify emergent themes and indicators of success.
Provide a comprehensive summary of the collected data and action steps within a specified
timeline.
1. Planning Phase:
• Define project goals, objectives, and success criteria in alignment with LAUSD’s Strategic Plan.
• Establish a tight project timeline with clear deliverables and milestones.
• Assemble a project team, including project manager, data analysts, and focus group facilitators.
• Identify key stakeholders, including parents, teachers, students, administrators, and community members.
• Develop a communication plan to inform stakeholders about the Listening Campaign.
• Create focus group discussion guides and data collection tools.
• Obtain necessary approvals and permissions for data collection.
2. Data Collection Phase:
• Work with LAUSD staff to conduct focus group sessions with various stakeholder groups.
Please note that this includes in-person meetings across different areas of the District.
• Collect additional data, including surveys and interviews, if necessary.
• Ensure the collection of diverse and representative feedback from different demographics,
areas of the district, and perspectives.
• Record and transcribe focus group discussions and interviews.
• Maintain confidentiality and anonymity of participants, as required.
3. Data Analysis Phase:
• Analyze qualitative data to identify emergent themes and patterns.
• Analyze quantitative data related to student achievement and wellness.
• Utilize appropriate data analysis tools and techniques.
• Cross-reference data to identify correlations and insights.
• Prepare data visualizations and reports for easy understanding.
4. Reporting and Recommendations:
• Prepare a comprehensive report summarizing the findings
• Identify key opportunities and challenges highlighted by stakeholders.
• Present emergent themes and indicators of success.
• Work with the Division of Special Education and LAUSD staff to develop recommendations for
action and improvement.
• Include actionable insights to inform the Division’s future direction.
5. Timeliness and Accountability:
• Adhere to the specified timeline for data collection, analysis, and reporting.
• Ensure data accuracy and reliability.
• Maintain transparency and accountability throughout the project.
6. Final Deliverables:
• A comprehensive report with findings, recommendations, and data visualizations.
• A presentation of the findings to key stakeholders.
• Raw data, transcripts, and analysis documentation for review.
7. Project Closure:
• Conduct a project review to assess the success of the Listening Campaign.
• Archive project documentation and data for future reference.
• Ensure a smooth transition for any follow-up actions or initiatives.
