Finger Lakes Community College is seeking market research assistance to identify how the College can better serve the needs of adult students (age 25 and older) in both credit and non-credit credential offerings (i.e., badges, certificates, degree programs), within and outside our service area (Ontario, Wayne, Seneca and Yates counties), now and in the future.
Finger Lakes Community College (FLCC) was established in 1965 as part of the State of New York (SUNY) system. The College’s main campus of more than 250 acres is based in Canandaigua, NY. Additionally, the College also has campus centers in Victor, Geneva, and Newark and a conservation field station located on Honeoye Lake.
The College offers more than 40 academic degree and certificate programs with the addition of honors studies, a winter session and minimesters, online and hybrid, travel and expedition courses, internships, high school dual-credit programs, non-credit and workforce training offerings, and Adult Basic Education/GED programs. In fall of 2017 FLCC enrolled 6,356 full and part-time students and employed 693 full and part-time faculty and staff.

Scope of Work:
Finger Lakes Community College is seeking proposals for market research services related to adult students.
The scope would include but not be limited to the following:
1. Market potential within the prospective adult student market segments:
a. Degree Seekers—defined as those who are seeking to earn a credential. They may have never attended college or attended college with some college credits not attain a credential.
b. Career Switchers—defined as adults either returning to the workforce or preparing for a career switch. They may have a credential but not one that aligns with their career goals.
c. Career Accelerators—defined as working adults looking to upskill to stay current in their job or seeking a promotion. They may have a credential but not one that aligns with their career goals.
d. Lifelong Learners—defined as adults who enjoy learning and education or who are pursuing a passion. They may have a credential and may or may not be seeking another.
2. Market potential within these segments within the following geographic areas:
a. FLCC Service Area (New York State counties of Ontario, Wayne, Seneca and Yates)
b. The rest of New York State
c. States that border New York State (PA, NJ, CT, RI, MA, VT)
d. Geographic areas (including those outside U.S.) that align with FLCC’s specialized degree programs, such as:
i. Viticulture & Wine Technology
ii. Game Programming & Design
iii. Kinesiology and Human Performance
iv. Health Care Studies
v. Cyber Security (Fall 2019 launch)
3. Analyzing FLCC’s current academic (credit and non-credit) offerings and current adult student demographic data, what opportunities exist to serve each adult market segment?
4. Based on the market potential that exists within these segments and geographic areas, how can FLCC position itself to meet the needs of each segment in the future (programming, scheduling, delivery, financing)?
