This entropy gap would enable the service provider to develop and design an implementable corporate reputation plan.

Background:

The SABC is South Africa’s national public broadcaster. Its objectives are to provide a comprehensive range of distinctive programmes and services with the view to inform, educate and entertain in all 12 official languages. Its principal activities comprise of television and radio broadcasting utilizing 19 radio stations and 3 free to air and two satellite television channels. The SABC has attracted negative publicity from around 2010 which ultimately led to the appointment of the Parliamentary AD Hoc Committee to investigate the fitness of the SABC Board as per the National Assembly Resolution of the 3rd November 2016. The negative publicity experienced by the national public broadcaster around this period caused serious brand reputational damage. Part of the outcome of the investigation was the appointment of an Interim Board of the SABC for a period of six months.

Presently the SABC has a new fully fledged board of directors, which signals a new beginning. The process of rebuilding the SABC, which started during the tenure of the Interim Board, continues in order to take the reputation of this organization to a higher level. Reputation Management is about understanding what drives an organization, your success, and overall response to mitigating reputational risk – be it proactive or reactive. Any strategic intervention will adopt a process that aims to understand the SABC’s reputational assets as well as the reputational risks that threaten its success.
