Young Associate of Ogilvy & Mather Philippines Dies Unexpectedly
Mark David Dehesa, an associate in the PR division of the Manila office of Ogilvy & Mather, died Sunday from complications to pneumonia. He had worked a very long day on Friday starting in the early hours until late in the evening, and at the end of that time he asked for a ride to the hospital. This death, along with others recently, brought up a discussion that is not unfamiliar in PR and advertising circles – work/life balance. The topic seems especially meaningful in Asia.
Many posts were made on social media, most similar to one written by a colleague on Facebook that said: “Goodbye Mark. The people who’ve known you and worked with you will miss you. Hopefully, your death will lead the advertising and communication, production and marketing industries to reflect on how the demands of work impact our #physicalhealth and #mentalhealth, which always takes a backseat when fulfilling punishing deadlines.”
