Tierney used to be the public relations executive and publisher for the Philadelphia Inquirer. Tierney graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1979, with a major in political science. Tierney moved back to the Philadelphia area as a Reagan appointee in the U.S. Small Business Administration’s office.
