Public relations is a field that has been traditionally dominated by white men. This can cause problems for diversity because the lack of diversity in the field means that there are not many people with different perspectives in the room when decisions are being made.
This lack of diversity can lead to PR teams making decisions without considering how they might affect other people, which can lead to poor decisions and negative publicity for your brand.

- White men have a tendency to hire other white men, who tend to have similar backgrounds and interests. This means that there is less room for new ideas and perspectives on projects, which can make it hard for companies to innovate and grow as quickly as they should be able.
- People with different backgrounds tend to have different ways of communicating with others. For example, women tend to be better at communicating verbally while men tend to be better at communicating through email or text messages. If the majority of a team’s members are male or all male, then they will likely not be able to communicate well with female customers or clients, which could negatively affect how well the company does business.
- Misrepresenting the message of the company. A company that isn’t clear about its values and mission will likely misrepresent them when speaking to the media. The media will pick up on this, and brand relationships with the press will suffer.
- Using false statistics to support your arguments. Using false statistics or facts to support an argument is wrong because once people see through the ruse, they will stop listening to anything else a brand and its representatives have to say.
The Role of Racism and the Media
It is no secret that there is a lot of racism in the world today, even though many people believe that it has been eradicated. The way that people perceive others based on their skin color, gender or sexual orientation is something that still hasn’t been addressed properly.
The media plays an important role in how we perceive one another and how we treat each other on a daily basis. Unfortunately, most of the time it does more harm than good when it comes to promoting diversity among people from different backgrounds.
This is because most news companies tend to focus on stories about conflict rather than stories about peace and harmony between races, genders, sexual orientations etcetera. This can cause problems for diversity because it creates division among people who should be united instead.
The Public relations field has a reputation of being the kind in which only people with connections get hired. This sort of collective reputation isn’t ideal for the sake of diversity, and until this changes the field’s reputation will continue to be marred.
