David Telling leaves Bell Pottinger to Join Newgate Communications

Newgate Communications Nabs Lobbyist from MWWPR

David Telling has been with Bell Pottinger for 17 years, rising to the level of partner, but he’s making a change now and moving to Newgate Communications with the job of increasing their clients and the area they’ve been covering geographically. He started in the new position earlier in January and reports to Gavin Devine Newgate’s top exec. He continues his affiliation with E2Exchange as an advisory board director to the group, helping entrepreneurs find investments and grow their careers. Newgate was founded in 2011 by Porta.

Raisa Sheynberg Joins APCO Worldwide

Raisa Sheynberg is an international economic policy and national security expert as well as a former director at the National Security Council in the area of trade and investment. Lisa Osborne Ross, APCO’s DC office managing director, announced the new assignment with Sheynberg becoming a director in their global solutions practice. Sheynberg’s career most recently includes being a security advisor for various White House officials including the Director of the National Economic Council, White House Chief of Staff, and the National Security Advisor.

Golin Creates New Job and Promotes Patti Temple Rocks to Fill it

Golin has promoted two people recently. Those mentioned here will officially start their jobs on April 1st. In the Chicago office, Patti Temple Rocks has been appointed the MD and will also fill the new position of client innovation officer. The other promotion is moving managing director Ginger Porte from the Dallas office to Midwest Region president in the Chicago officer. Both will report to CEO+ operations head Gary Rudnick and also join the executive board of the agency. Golin is an Interpublic Group agency and have also promoted executive director Alex Tan to become the Dallas office’s associate managing director. They’ve added to Carrie von der Sitt’s leadership responsibilities in Chicago as well. Von der Sitt is the executive director, and will now also oversee the growth and definition of food and beverage business for Golin in the US.

Is Hillenby Helping CoreCivic with PR Crisis?

This one falls under the advice to always check the recipients listed on a confidential email. Because oops, the spokesperson for CoreCivic, previously known as Corrections Corporation of America, Jonathan Burns, sent a confidential email to their PR firm’s chief operating officer, Katie Lilley. The problem was he also sent it to Aaron Schrank, a Texas public radio reporter. Schrank knew the reporter, Shane Bauer, who had been doing a MotherJones.com story on CoreCivic, and forwarded it to him. This exposed that Hillenby was working with the company to do their magic – they market themselves as using an “aggressive media strategy.”

The email included two pages of talking points asking Lilley to make sure they were “CoreCivic-ified first.” That was most likely about switching everything to have the new company name and logo. Hillenby, in the past, has said they help companies “incorporate certain language” when corresponding with reporters, introducing “the concept of legal risk.” Maybe for those and other reasons, Hillenby doesn’t usually name their clients. Lilley previously worked at Edelman.

Frukt (UK) and Rogers & Cowan Form Partnership

Frukt, a music/brand partnership agency based in London, is integrating with Rogers & Cowan, an entertainment PR firm based in Los Angeles. The two will have a “vertical leadership” arrangement with Mark Owens as CEO and Rich Davis as COO. Both agencies have had offices in London, New York, and LA and both under the Interpublic umbrella. Interpublic says this move creates “a team of pop culture power brokers.” Between them, they already represent more than 150 A-list artists, influencers, musicians, and athletes.

Helaine Klasky Becomes New Public Affairs and Crisis Chair for Burson-Marsteller

Helaine Klasky will report to US CEO of Burson-Marsteller (BM) Mike Fernandez – who has only been in that position since September. Klasky started with BM on January 11 and in her new position her focus will be on building the client portfolio, helping clients in crisis situations and politics, and working with clients on public and corporate policy. She replaces Ann Davison, who left the agency in July to become a director at PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

Klasky worked at GE before coming to BM, reaching the position of senior advisor for GE Business innovations, but she was also the chief communications officer for GE Energy Management. Klasky also spent time at Yale University as their chief communications officer. She continues her efforts as an adjunct professor at American University in the school of communications.
