Walker Sands Works With CompTIA to Bridge Tech Gender Issues
Tech field jobs have more often than not been filled by men, women in the field are still somewhat of an aberration more than any norm. But Walker Sands and CompTIA (Computing Technology Industry Association) are coming together to change that trend and way of seeing things with a hashtag campaign — #MakeTechHerStory. They are working with girls from ages 10-17 in a focus group to discuss tech careers and what they believe is needed by an IT pro.
Once that was determined, stories were given to the girls showing women with successful IT and Tech careers and telling those stories on social media, ebooks, and using a modernized avatar version of Rosie the Riveter. Girls made their own avatars to fit the campaign and were asked to share them on their social media with the unique hashtag. The success shows in 35K videos viewed, 600K shares on social media and more than 250M media impressions.
