Agency Leader Provides His PR Week In Review

ronn torossian insights

Some interesting reading from the media in the past week:

First – Even as CEO of an award-winning PR Agency, I was unaware that July 27th was “PR National Awareness Day.” How many of you knew that? I certainly didn’t – but learned of it after reading The Financial Times and an article headlined “PR, an industry with a PR problem”

Then – Headlines in the New Jersey newspapers talks about controversy surrounding the recovery of the Jersey Shore following the damage done by Superstorm Sandy. There’s ads airing – “Stronger Than The Storm” – which are being coordinated by The MWWPR Group at a cost of $5 million to the state, rather than the runner-up who wanted to charge $2 million less. Interesting reading on the topic. Whenever it’s PR, seemingly it attracts an inordinate amount of attention.

And – Time to support Obamacare? The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has hired Weber Shandwick for the whopping sum of $41.2 million. Wow – huge fees.

Finally – In good news for the entire industry, the Bureau of Labor Statistics‘ says that there will be an expected increase in the need for public relations managers by 21 percent by 2020. No matter which way it is spun, it is great news for all of us who work at a PR firm.

Never a dull moment in the PR industry, now is there?
