Anthropic's terminal-native coding agent. The agent senior engineers actually keep open.
Claude Code is Anthropic's official command-line coding agent. Terminal-native, multi-tool, capable of completing software engineering tasks end-to-end from any developer's existing workflow.
What it does
Claude Code is a CLI. Developers install it, run it inside any existing codebase, and delegate engineering tasks via natural language. The agent reads the code, writes changes, runs tests, observes failures, and self-corrects — in the developer's actual environment, using the developer's actual tooling.
The structural choice matters. Cursor and Devin chose graphical surfaces. Claude Code stayed in the terminal. That makes it portable, scriptable, and CI-integrable in ways the IDE-native agents are not. For pipelines, batch jobs, and engineers whose workflow is tmux and vim, Claude Code is the agent.

EPR editorial verdict
The terminal-native answer to the coding agent question. Anthropic-built, Anthropic-quality. The difference from Cursor is positional: Cursor owns the IDE; Claude Code owns the terminal. For senior engineers who live in tmux and never left, Claude Code is the agent.
EPR rating: 9.4/10.
