Two Queensland communications firms combined operations in November 2012. Amber James Consulting merged into Fresh PR & Marketing, a Sunshine Coast agency founded by Maya Gurry — creating a single integrated PR, marketing, branding, and digital shop serving Australian regional clients.

The move consolidated capabilities across marketing strategy, advertising, brand development, graphic design, market research, community engagement, event management, PR, and social media — the same integrated-services thesis that would define the AI Communications era a decade later. Clients wanted fewer agencies, deeper capability sets, and one accountable team.

Amber James remained with the combined firm. Gurry retained the founder-director role.

Regional agency roll-ups — one team absorbing another to widen service depth without geographic overreach — remain the dominant M&A pattern in mid-market PR. In 2026, the same math drives holding-company acquisitions of GEO shops and AI-visibility specialists.
