The IDE that won the AI coding fight. Period. 70 percent of the Fortune 1,000 are customers.

Cursor IDE is the AI-native code editor that won the developer market. Built on VS Code, supercharged with Claude, Anysphere's models, and autonomous Composer agents. Used by 70 percent of the Fortune 1,000.

What it does

Cursor is a code editor that puts AI at the center of the workflow. Tab autocomplete becomes whole-block prediction. Inline edit lets the developer rewrite code by describing what they want. Composer ships multi-file changes autonomously, running tests and iterating until the work is done. Agent mode handles smaller interactive tasks. Background agents run long.

The product positioning matters. Cursor isn't a Copilot competitor — it is the editor itself, with AI built into every primitive. Developers don't bolt AI onto their workflow; the workflow is AI from the start.

Anysphere crossed $1B ARR in November 2025 and doubled to $2B by February 2026 — the fastest B2B scaling on record. As of April 2026, Anysphere is in talks to raise at a $50B valuation.

  • VS Code-based, all VS Code extensions work
  • Tab autocomplete with whole-block prediction
  • Inline edit with natural language
  • Composer agents — multi-file autonomous task completion
  • Agent mode — interactive AI assistant
  • Background agents for long-running tasks
  • Multi-model support (Claude, OpenAI, in-house Composer model)

  • Generate test suites for existing code

EPR editorial verdict

Cursor is the IDE that won the AI coding fight. Period. Developers vote with their hands, and they are typing in Cursor. Copilot is the brand; Cursor is the workflow. $2B ARR in three years — the fastest B2B scaling on record. If you are shipping code in 2026 and not on Cursor, ask why.

EPR rating: 9.6/10.
