Matthew Lehrich returns to White House after stint with Porter Novelli
President Obama appointed Matthew Lehrich as the assistant secretary for communications and outreach, the top communications position in the Department of Education. Lehrich returned to fill the post beginning in February. He and three other people were appointed to positions in the White House and President Obama recognized their service, saying, “These fine public servants bring a depth of experience and tremendous dedication to their important roles. I look forward to working with them.”
Lehrich left his position as Vice President of global reputation management and crisis communications with Porter Novelli, where he’s been working since 2014. Prior to his work at Porter Novelli, he worked at the White House as assistant press secretary from 2011-2014, and regional communications director and deputy of response beginning in 2009. Before his time at the White House, he worked on both the New Hampshire and Wisconsin presidential campaigns for Obama.
Edelman named AOR for PayPal’s U.S. Communications and Global Product PR
Anuj Nayer, PayPal’s global leader of product communications, announced last week they chose Edelman for a 60-day scope of work. If all goes well, the contract will extend beyond the initial 60-day trial. Edelman currently represents PayPal’s international work including EMEA and Asia-Pacific.
It is believed Omnicom’s AccessEmanate, Huntsworth’s Grayling, Next 15’s Text 100, WPP’s Ogilvy/Cohn & Wolfe, and MDC’s Allison & Partners were among other firms in the running for the contract. MSLGroup, who has been serving in the position, will continue to represent PayPay in Latin America and Canada.
The contract for the global product, believed to be in the range of seven figures, also includes PayPal brands Venmo, Paydiant, Xoom, and Braintree. The U.S. part of the contract as explained by PayPal is “think campaigns that support our go-to market strategy for merchants and consumers for example.”
MWWPR Launches “HerVoice”
Last week MWW PR announced “HerVoice” launch, a proprietary practice established to serve female leaders and their unique needs while creating their inhouse and public profiles. The new practice will be under the Corporate Rep practice, and exec VP Careen Winters will oversee using her leadership development expertise with C-level execs.
The practice will offer various services including help with social strategy and communications, media training and program implementation services for women leading in companies no matter the industry, and platform and message development. It will be available to women in leadership positions at all stages including legacy building, new CEO appointments, and everything between. For the first 100 days they are also offering HerVoice Launchpad, a proprietary programming tool.

LaForce + Stevens splits and LaForce forms new firm
The new firm, LaForce, was launched last month according to James LaForce, and he explained, “Most of the former L+S staff and clients have moved over to my new company. We are staying put in the same office, just below Union Square.”
Expected clients of LaForce coming from L+S include Perry Ellis, Banana Republic, Target, and LinkedIn.
