If you recently paid for something via PayPal then you may have noticed a subtle change in its checkout page. It looks like PayPal switched the color of its “Pay Now” button from orange to blue.

Edelman public relations has just hired Lex Suvanto as managing director of Edelman Financial, effective effective today. Previously the managing director of Abernathy MacGregor, Suvanto is tasked with building Edelman's so-called special situations capability in New York and other U.S. markets. According to the news from the firm, he is to play a key role in growing financial communications practice for Edelman worldwide. Suvanto will report directly to Russell Dubner, president, Edelman, New York.

Just when cruise line Carnival figured it their reputation could not possibly get worse, they're hit with a class action lawsuit that claims their ships' hot tubs are infested with flesh eating bacteria. The lawsuit contends passengers contracted the eerily horrible MRSA virus while traveling aboard the beleaguered cruise lines's ships.

Before mass media, there was a time when human beings weren't bombarded with advertisements. Brands weren't as ubiquitous in older, simpler times. Most products provided an absolute purpose and remedied a need for the people, and they were advertised as such. Take soap for instance. People needed soap because they wanted to be clean, so ad agencies filled the first simple voids with solutions, their solutions. Advertising has changed dramatically since those days however.

I am unsure of the data but I have no doubt that printed newspapers and magazines remain very influential in Europe. One cannot enter a coffee shop of a restaurant without seeing actual papers, much as one cannot enter a major city without seeing many newsstands. In terms of influence, and the man on the street, there’s no doubt that public relations companies concerned with Europe need to realize the buzz created by papers there.
