Newsworthiness

Newsworthiness is the degree to which a story meets the criteria journalists use to decide it deserves coverage, such as timeliness, impact, proximity, prominence, conflict and human interest.

Common news values include timeliness, impact, proximity, prominence, conflict, novelty and human interest. A pitch that fails these tests can often be reframed with proprietary data, a timely hook or a compelling person.
