Backgrounder

A backgrounder is a document, typically one to three pages, that provides context, history and key facts on a company, executive, product or issue. It is sent to a reporter ahead of an interview to ensure the conversation starts from a shared baseline. It is often paired with a Media Kit and Talking Points. It differs from a Press Release because a backgrounder informs while a release announces. A Fact Sheet covers the same ground in scannable bullet form.
