Dateline

A dateline is the line at the start of a press release or news story that gives the city and date of the announcement.

A dateline, for example NEW YORK, Oct. 10, 2026, signals where the news originates and when it is released. Along with the headline, lede, body and boilerplate, it is a standard element of press release format, especially for wire distribution.
