Earned Media Value (EMV)

Earned media value, or EMV, is a dollar estimate assigned to earned coverage, usually based on the cost of equivalent advertising or on engagement, and is the modern successor to AVE.

EMV shares the core flaw of AVE: it converts attention into advertising math without proving business impact. Many agencies still report it because clients ask for it. Treat it as a directional indicator at best and pair it with outcome measures.
