Brandon Webb - Navy Seal. Airplane pilot. Entrepreneur

Brandon Webb is a former United States Navy SEAL, combat veteran, entrepreneur, and best-selling author. He leads Hurricane Media, a media and eCommerce company he founded after leaving the Navy, and in 2012 he created the Red Circle Foundation to support families of fallen and wounded Special Forces veterans.

Webb was born in 1974 and left home at 16. After finishing high school, he joined the Navy, where he served for more than a decade. He then founded what became Hurricane Media, following the entrepreneurial example of his parents, who both ran small businesses.

Webb has written and co-written several books and appears in national media as a Special Forces and business expert. He is booked as a speaker through MacMillan Speakers. His arc, from Navy SEAL to media founder to best-selling author, sits alongside other operator profiles in EPR's industry leaders directory.

As a Navy SEAL, Brandon Webb held several roles. After completing Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training, he started as an Aviation Warfare Systems Operator and Search and Rescue Swimmer. He deployed four times to the Middle East and once to Afghanistan, serving with SEAL Team Three.

Webb says the military work he is most proud of is training other Navy SEALs. He served as manager of the SEAL sniper course, which has produced some of the most highly trained snipers in the military.

He received multiple honors during his service, including the Presidential Unit Citation, presented by President George W. Bush. He also earned a Commendation Medal with a valor designation from the Navy and Marine Corps.

Hurricane Media provides media content and physical products aimed at an audience interested in adventure and self-reliance. The company runs several connected media brands instead of a single content property:

  • NEWSREP publishes journalism from soldiers in the field.
  • SOFREP Radio broadcasts on military issues from Special Forces veterans.
  • SPECOPS Channel covers Special Forces content other outlets do not.

Hurricane Media also runs several consumer brands:

  • CUNA sells treats and toys for dogs.
  • CONTINUUM sells vitamins and supplements.
  • A military-themed book club curates titles picked by veterans.
  • Crate Club is a subscription box of survival gear picked by former Navy SEALs and Special Operations Forces.

Webb has written several books, drawing on his experience as a Navy SEAL and as head of Hurricane Media.

His best-known title is Mastering Fear: A Navy SEAL's Guide, co-written with John David Mann. It covers Webb leaving home young and completing a SEAL training course where only 23 of the original 220 candidates finished. It also covers his combat service in Afghanistan and his rebuilding after a divorce and a failed business.

With Mann, he also wrote Total Focus: Make Better Decisions Under Pressure, on the decision-making lessons he learned in combat when the stakes were highest.

Webb's motivational books reach readers beyond the military community, and he has also published books for young adult readers.

Speaking and media engagements

Webb has appeared on CNN, ABC, Fox, MSNBC, and the BBC as a Special Forces and business commentator. His on-camera manner is relaxed rather than the stereotypical drill-sergeant style, the kind of consistent broadcast presence that media training is built to produce.

Brandon Webb is booked for live appearances through MacMillan Speakers.

Red Circle Foundation

In 2012, Brandon Webb lost his best friend Glen Doherty, a CIA contractor and fellow Navy SEAL, during the Benghazi attack. The loss led him to found the Red Circle Foundation, which funds memorials, medical services, and scholarships for families of fallen and wounded Special Forces veterans. Donor partners cover overhead costs, so all donations go directly to recipients.

Webb studied at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and the University of Kentucky. He divides his time between San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Manhattan, New York, and flies airplanes when he is not writing, speaking, or running Hurricane Media.
