Swimwear brands work with creators on Instagram through sponsored posts, gifted product, affiliate or discount-code programs and co-designed collections. The deal is only as strong as its compliance: under the FTC's 2023 Endorsement Guides, any free product, affiliate link or discount code is a material connection that must be disclosed clearly. This guide covers how the deals work, what to vet and how to stay compliant.

Rewritten October 12, 2026. The earlier version described generic creator tactics and referred to IGTV, which Instagram has retired. Part of EPR's Influencer Marketing pillar.

How do swimwear brands work with bikini influencers?

Swimwear brands work with creators through four deal types, and each pays differently. The table lists what the brand gets and the main risk. These are EPR's descriptions of common structures, not pricing benchmarks.

Deal typeWhat the brand getsMain risk
Sponsored post or ReelCreator content with a captioned offerWeak disclosure and uneven performance
Gifted productLow-cost exposure and user-style contentGifts still create a disclosure duty
Affiliate or discount codeTrackable sales per creatorCodes and links are material connections that must be disclosed
Co-designed collectionDeeper partnership and a launch momentHigher cost and brand-fit risk

For payment structures at smaller creator tiers, see EPR's guide to micro-influencer marketing and the micro-influencer campaigns of Tula, Alo Yoga and Glossier.

What content works for swimwear creators on Instagram?

Swimwear content works when it is visual, consistent and platform-native. Creators typically combine feed posts and carousels for polished imagery, Stories for daily updates and Reels for short video that can reach new audiences. IGTV no longer exists as a separate format, so long-form content now goes in Reels or standard video posts.

A recognizable aesthetic, such as a color palette, location or editing style, makes a creator's content identifiable at a glance. Brands should ask for creative that fits the creator's own style instead of a script, because audiences notice a mismatch.

What do the FTC rules require for bikini influencer posts?

The FTC's Endorsement Guides, updated in 2023, require creators and brands to disclose any material connection to a brand. Material connections include payment, free products, affiliate commissions and discount codes, according to The Social Media Law Firm, which also states that civil penalties can reach $53,088 per violation as of 2025.

RequirementWhat it means for a swimwear post
Clear and conspicuousThe disclosure must be difficult to miss and easy for ordinary consumers to understand
Before the foldOn Instagram, place the disclosure in the first line of the caption, before "more"
Reels and StoriesUse readable on-screen text and a spoken or captioned disclosure
Platform tools are not enoughThe "Paid partnership" label can supplement a disclosure but may not replace it
Brands are responsible tooBrands should instruct creators on disclosure and monitor what they post

Frequently Asked Questions

How do bikini influencers make money?

They earn through sponsored posts, affiliate commissions or discount codes, gifted product and co-designed collections. Each arrangement that gives them value from a brand must be disclosed.

Do bikini influencers have to disclose free swimwear?

Yes. Under the FTC's Endorsement Guides, free products create a material connection that must be disclosed clearly, even if the brand did not ask for a post.

Where should the disclosure go on Instagram?

In the first line of the caption, before the "more" fold, and on screen for Reels and Stories. The "Paid partnership" label can supplement it but may not be enough on its own.

What happened to IGTV?

Instagram retired IGTV as a separate format, so long-form video is now posted as Reels or standard video.
