Daly is a New York comms+ agency founded by Alex Daly around 2018, with offices in New York, Los Angeles and Miami. Who founded Daly?

Alex Daly founded the agency. She started in journalism at New York magazine and WSJ Magazine, moved into documentary film, and began running crowdfunding campaigns in 2012, per Forbes. She launched her crowdfunding agency, Vann Alexandra, in 2014 and wrote the book The Crowdsourceress, which gave her that nickname. She told Creative Bloq that around 2018 crowdfunding clients began asking for ongoing PR support, which led to Daly.

How did Daly grow out of a crowdfunding consultancy?

Vann Alexandra prepared and promoted campaigns on platforms such as Kickstarter and Indiegogo, and Wikipedia notes it also offered marketing and PR services. Forbes reported in 2020 that Daly's team had raised more than $25 million across campaigns for filmmakers, MIT Media Lab inventors, Pentagram partners and musicians including Neil Young and TLC. The firm now describes itself as a comms+ agency that brings crowd-building experience to PR.

Why did Daly rebrand as comms+?

In the Creative Factor interview, Alex Daly and Ally Bruschi said the firm had called itself a comms and marketing agency and that the label caused confusion about what it actually offered. Repositioning as comms+ roots it in the communications ecosystem, they said, while letting generalist team members keep their own specialties. The PR Net's 2023 profile adds that the firm pitches to traditional online media and to TikTok pages for contributed content, and reports 100 percent employee retention over the prior two and a half years, an agency-reported figure.

In the Creative Bloq interview Alex Daly said that while comms is the core, the agency also offers event activations and other services.
