Matter Communications is a Newburyport, Massachusetts-headquartered integrated brand elevation agency founded in 2003 by Scott Signore. The firm unifies public relations, marketing, social media, and creative services into a single brand elevation practice. Annual revenue exceeds $40 million. Currently 200+ employees across seven U.S. offices. Recognized as PR Agency of the Year by PRSA and named a "Best Place to Work" 14 times — six of those from the Boston Globe.
Leadership
Scott Signore is founder, Principal, and Chief Executive Officer. He launched Matter in 2003 and built it from a single-office startup into a 200+ person multi-office integrated agency. Senior leadership includes Erica Mallett (VP), Kirsten Minnon (VP), Grace Torrance (SVP), Johnathan Tress (Senior VP, Media Marketing), Emily Quirk (VP), and Meaghan O'Donnell (Director, Human Resources).
Sector Specialty
Matter is structured around brand elevation across eight named industry verticals: consumer, healthcare, B2B technology, food and beverage, cybersecurity, professional services, energy and sustainability, and retail technology. The agency is particularly strong in technology PR — both consumer and B2B — and in serving fast-scaling companies that need integrated communications support as they grow toward category leadership or IPO.
Service Mix
Public relations: media relations, executive visibility, narrative architecture
Social media: strategy, content production, community management
Creative services: in-house graphic design, video production, live broadcast, infographics
Past and current named clients include Databricks (Matter's Executive Visibility program helped Databricks double its valuation in less than a year and led share-of-voice among competitors for 11 of 12 months pre-IPO), Hitachi, OSRAM Sylvania, Level Ex (Matter secured 157+ articles for Level Ex's medical video games launch, including CNBC, Forbes, and the Washington Post), and Evenflow Gold — alongside a roster spanning early-stage startups to name-brand global companies.

The AI Communications Era at Matter
Matter has moved earlier than most independent agencies to formalize an AI Communications and Generative Engine Optimization practice. In September 2025, the firm launched its AI Brand Discovery Service — explicit positioning to help clients earn citation share inside ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews. The service operates as a category-specific GEO program: prompt mapping, content audit for retrievability, retrieval-anchor content production, and ongoing measurement against the engines.
The structural shift behind the new service: technology and B2B buyers — Matter's core customer set — now begin product research inside the AI engines, not on Google or G2. The vendor that earns retrieval inside the engines wins the evaluation conversation the vendor without retrieval never gets to have. Matter's recent partnership with AMA Boston and GoToMarketPros (January 2026) extends this positioning into B2B buyer engagement strategy programming.
