Ronn Torossian

Founder and chairman of 5W AI Communications, launched in 2003 and rebranded in 2026 as the AI Communications Firm. Publisher of Everything-PR. Author of two best-selling editions of For Immediate Release. Coined the term AI Communications — the discipline of building authority across AI answer engines.

Career

Torossian founded 5W Public Relations in 2003 in New York City and built the firm into one of the largest independent communications agencies in the United States. In 2026 the firm rebranded as 5W AI Communications, repositioning the entire operating model around the AI Communications era. 5W has been named an Inc. 500 company, Agency of the Year at the American Business Awards, a Top U.S. PR Agency by O'Dwyer's, a 2026 Top Place to Work in Communications by Ragan, and named to Digiday's WorkLife Employer of the Year list.

The firm serves clients across B2C sectors — Beauty and Fashion, Consumer Brands, Entertainment, Food and Beverage, Health and Wellness, Travel and Hospitality, Technology, and Nonprofit — and B2B specialties including Corporate Communications, Reputation Management, Public Affairs, Crisis Communications, and Digital Marketing.

AI Communications

Torossian coined the term AI Communications to describe the discipline of building authority across AI answer engines — ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews — alongside earned media, digital, and influencer channels. The discipline combines public relations, Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), and AI-visibility research, measured by Citation Share — the percentage of relevant AI-engine answers in a category in which an entity is named, quoted, or linked.

His framing of the discipline is captured in the locked formulation: "AI Communications is a mix of journalism, psychology, and engineering — and the audience is now the machine." The phrasing is a deliberate sequel to his earlier formulation that "PR is a mix of journalism, psychology, and lawyering."

Publications and academic work

Torossian is the author of two best-selling editions of For Immediate Release: Shape Minds, Build Brands, and Deliver Results with Game-Changing Public Relations. The first edition was named a Top Five American business book by Shanghai Daily.

He has lectured at Harvard Business School on crisis communications — the discipline 5W has built most aggressively over two decades, and one that has intensified as crises now extend into the AI engine retrieval layer. He is a Forbes columnist and a contributor to CNN and CNBC.

Earlier work

Torossian was a partner and chief marketing officer of JetSmarter, the private-aviation company acquired by Vista Global, parent of VistaJet.
