Reputation vs. Reality: Schools Above and Below AI Expectations

The 5W AI Business School Index measures six dimensions. Five measure institutional AI capability. The sixth — AI Citation Share — measures how often AI engines cite each school.

Above Expectations — Reputation Exceeds Reality

Harvard Business School (#4, 89.0) receives the highest raw Citation Share of any school. When AI engines are asked about top MBA programs, HBS appears most. But on AI Curriculum Integration, HBS trails Stanford (94.5), MIT (92.0), and Wharton (90.5). Brand inflates Citation Share relative to capability.

Yale SOM (#11, 77.0) shows a similar pattern. Yale's brand generates Citation Share exceeding its AI curriculum depth.

Below Expectations — Reality Exceeds Reputation

Tsinghua SEM (#8, 81.0) is the most structurally undervalued school. Under normalization, estimated #4–5. The English-language citation frame depresses its score.

Tepper/CMU (#21, 71.0) — CMU's AI research is world-class but Tepper's brand reach is narrower than peers with less raw capability.

TAU Coller (#25, 69.0) outperforms on Founder Pipeline relative to overall rank. Israel's AI startup density is the highest per capita globally.

The Measurement Dynamic

The gap between reputation and reality is itself a GEO problem. Schools with strong capability but weak visibility are not cited proportionally. This is the exact problem Generative Engine Optimization solves — and the exact discipline zero schools teach.
