IESE: The Most Aggressive Curriculum Rebuild in Business Education

IESE Business School scored 72.0 in the 5W AI Business School Index 2026 — ranking #19 overall and #3 in Europe behind London Business School (79.5) and INSEAD (78.0).

That number understates what IESE did.

The Case-Method Advantage

Most schools added AI through addition — new electives, new certificates. IESE took the opposite approach. It rewrote the existing curriculum.

Dozens of existing cases were rewritten to integrate AI decision-making, AI-mediated market dynamics, and AI-native competitive strategy. The cases are not about AI as a topic. They are about business problems where AI is the operating environment.

Why This Is Different

A new AI elective teaches students about AI. A rewritten core case teaches students to operate in AI. When a strategy case includes AI market-mapping data, AI Citation Share metrics as decision inputs — the student is making decisions in an AI-mediated economy.

The Score in Context

IESE's 72.0 places it above Anderson/UCLA (71.5), Tepper/CMU (71.0), McCombs/UT Austin (70.5), and Oxford Saïd (70.0). Schools with larger endowments, more faculty, and deeper US recruiting networks.

Where IESE trails: Dimensions 2 (Founder Alumni), 3 (Corporate Partnerships), 6 (Citation Share). The English-language Citation Share bias affects all non-US schools.

The Signal

IESE demonstrates that curriculum speed can compensate for structural disadvantage. The rebuild took less than two years. The result: a school that teaches business in AI — not business about AI.
