Gambling Advertising Rules by Platform: What Each Allows
Gambling Advertising Rules by Platform: What Each Allows

Gambling advertising rules by platform come down to licensing and approval: Google, Meta, Snapchat and TikTok allow licensed operators only after approval, X allows U.S. sports betting and casino ads with restrictions, and Pinterest bars gambling sites and apps. Every platform bars targeting under the legal age. EPR checked these policies on October 6, 2026.

Platform policies change often, so every row below links to the platform's own policy page. This guide is communications research, not legal advice. State gambling regulators set their own advertising rules on top of platform policy.

What does each ad platform allow for gambling?

Each platform requires proof of a license before a gambling ad can run. "Checked" means EPR read the platform's own policy page on October 6, 2026.

Can you advertise sports betting on Google?

You can advertise sports betting on Google only as a certified, state-licensed operator. Google's policy says advertisers of horse racing, sports betting and online casinos must be licensed by the state entity in certain states where the activity is legal, and operators of lotteries must be state-run. Advertisers must not target users under 21 or users outside the states where they are licensed, and must include a warning about addictive and compulsive gambling plus assistance information on the landing page or in the creative.

Google allows national targeting for sports betting ads on YouTube. Certification is limited to the specific website in the application, and gambling ads cannot run in Gmail, Shopping ads or the YouTube and Google TV masthead. Google announced an update to its certification standards on August 26, 2026, so recertify if your details change.

Can you advertise gambling on Meta?

You can advertise gambling on Meta only with prior written permission. Meta defines online gambling as any product or service where anything of monetary value is part of the method of entry and the prize. Advertisers must provide evidence that the activity is licensed by a regulator or otherwise lawful in each territory they target, and ads may not be targeted to people under 18.

Written permission also covers landing pages that promote online gambling even if no gambling happens on the page, such as affiliate sites. Social casino and free-to-play games can run without permission when they offer no chance to win real-world value. Meta's separate policy covers alcohol advertising, and the same permission logic applies in other restricted categories.

What do TikTok, X, Snapchat and Pinterest require?

The other platforms add approval steps or bar the category.

  • TikTok: advertisers work with a sales representative to get permission, and eligibility varies by market. Free-to-play games must not involve real money or financial rewards.
  • X: U.S. gambling affiliates and aggregators may not link directly to operator sites, and the landing page cannot allow a bet to be placed.
  • Snapchat: every gaming and gambling advertiser must be pre-approved and provide proof of license.
  • Pinterest: gambling websites, apps, lotteries and paid-entry fantasy sports are not allowed.

What rules apply to gambling affiliates?

Affiliates face tighter rules than operators. Google requires affiliates and aggregators without their own license to link exclusively to fully licensed operators in the targeted region and to state that in the site footer. Meta requires permission for affiliate landing pages, and X bars direct links to operator sites and any ability to place a bet from the landing page. An affiliate cannot assume that a platform rule written for operators applies to it.

Do prediction markets follow the same rules?

Prediction markets have their own category rules on some platforms. Google lists a separate Prediction Markets policy and says some U.S. advertisers may run those ads if they meet its criteria. A Gambling Insider report says TikTok expanded its policy in July 2026 to allow prediction market ads in 17 markets, including the United States, and treats sportsbook-style betting under the separate gambling policy. EPR did not verify that report against TikTok's own policy, so check the current rules before launching.

What should gambling marketers do on every platform?

Gambling marketers should build compliance in before creative. EPR's guidance:

  • Hold the state license for every state you target and keep proof ready for each platform.
  • Apply the strictest age floor in your market, since Google's U.S. policy bars targeting under 21.
  • Put responsible gambling and addiction help information on landing pages and creative.
  • Match certified websites and accounts, because a certification covers specific sites and a change can require recertification.
  • Check affiliate partners against each platform's affiliate rules.

How do gambling brands win when ads are limited?

Gambling brands win through licensing credibility, earned media and answer-engine visibility, which carry weight when paid reach is gated. EPR covers the playbook in Gambling PR and AI visibility, the 5W Responsible Gambling Index and The Bots Don't Like Gambling. The wider category map is in the guide to regulated industries when ads are blocked, and the cannabis advertising rules by platform shows how the same networks treat another state-regulated category.
