Andrew Hawkins Leaving Crains New York

Andrew Hawkins, Senior Reporter of Crain’s New York Business is leaving the publication as of Friday, October 9th after a three and a half year stint at the publication. He will commence a new job at The Verge on October 19th, where he will cover as he defined it “transportation, Uber, Lyft, hyperloops, Tesla, mass transit, our nation’s shitty infrastructure, and why the simple act of getting around seems increasingly like an exercise in masochism.”

In a note he distributed tonite, he noted: “After three-and-a-half years, I must say it’s been an honor and a privilege working at Crain’s, and with all the fine folk who have come and gone.

It’s a publication with a sterling brand and a deep commitment to covering New York City through an unapologetic lens, making it a difficult decision for me to leave. With the relaunch on the horizon, the sky’s the limit for the Crain’s team.

And after eight years of covering local politics, I begrudgingly move on to a new beat. It’s been a crazy ride and I don’t imagine I’ll miss everything about it.

What I will miss is being yelled at by a succession of (mostly) professional City Hall flacks, sparring with the governor’s enforcers, and rubbing shoulders with all the insanely talented and relentless political reporters in this, the greatest city in the world. It was a true honor and privilege to work in everyone’s shadows.”
