At History Colorado we strive to be a place of belonging for all Coloradans and to serve as a platform for community connection. Our flagship museum, the History Colorado Center opened in 2012 in Denver’s Golden Triangle Museum District. An award-winning tourist destination and a hub for learning and entertainment, it’s also a place to shop and dine. The center houses core and traveling exhibitions, public programs and events, educational programs, and unique rental spaces, along with our Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation, State Historical Fund, and Stephen H. Hart Library & Research Center.
The State Historical Fund historic preservation grants program has awarded over $286 million in grants to all 64 counties across Colorado, resulting in more than a $1.5 billion impact on Colorado’s economy since its inception in 1993.
As the State Historic Preservation Office, the Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation assists with archaeological permitting, nominations to the National Register of Historic Places and State Register of Historic Properties, certification of county and municipal preservation programs, approval of federal and state preservation tax credits, and review of the effects of federal projects on historic resources.
