As a verb, one definition of “matter” is “of importance” and that single word is symbolic of the culture, values, and purpose of Matter Communications.

Matter describes itself as a brand elevation agency that achieves success for its clients by creating integrated programs that are content-laden and designed to raise voice and market share, brand awareness, and audience engagement while lowering sales cycle barriers. The final goal is to dominate short lists.

In its 17-year history, the agency has already gathered 76 awards for creativity and achieved Agency of the Year awards twelve times. In addition, the agency has ten times been recognized as a Best Place to Work. Founded in 2003, the Boston-based public relations and marketing firm has grown and added six other locations from coast-to-coast in the U.S., including Newburyport, Massachusetts, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Providence, Rhode Island, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Boulder, Colorado and Portland, Oregon.

Expertise

In addition to public relations, Matter’s 200 employees serve numerous industries with its vast menu of creative services, digital marketing, and strategic planning. Those industries include consumer, healthcare, B2B technology, food and beverage, cybersecurity, professional services, energy and sustainability, and retail technology.

Clients

Matter serves start-ups to name brand clients like Evenflow Gold, Databricks, OSRAM Sylvania, and Hitachi. Its clients can’t stop heaping praise on the agency. Brianne Yoshimoto, Hitachi’s Senior Manager of Strategic Customer Programs said she wasn’t only satisfied with Matter’s expertise, helpfulness and attention to detail, but trusted their expertise and felt confident with the team.

Databricks was already well known in its field as a leader in unified data analytics but a relative unknown to investors before announcing plans for an IPO earlier this year. The company retained Matter in 2019 to help it gain exposure to this critical audience. Matter responded by creating an Executive Visibility program to shine a light on Databrick’s leaders and set up highly visible interviews in business, technology, leadership and HR publications about the critical issues currently facing the industry and how Databricks was prepared to address them.

Matter’s efforts resulted in Databricks doubling its value in less than a year and becoming one of the fastest growing cloud companies on record. In addition, Matter validated Databricks’ value to investors by leading share-of-voice among its competitors for all but one month out of the year.

Level Ex, on the other hand, was a relative unknown when it approached Matter in February 2019 and sought help in generating interest for its medical video games and the launch of Cardio Ex, a cardiology game. Level Ex also wanted medical professionals to be aware of their vast array of medical resources and publications.

Matter put together a comprehensive strategy that included a diverse audience ranging from not only trade publications and gaming media, but also healthcare trade and tech press, business publications, and a major cardiology conference.

As a result of its planning, Matter initially secured eight interviews for the launch of Cardio Ex. It subsequently landed more than 157 articles and coverage in the media, including CNBC, Forbes and the Washington Post.

Company Culture

Scott Signore, Founder and CEO of Matter, set high standards for the firm and believes the success it’s achieved is a result of his employees. He’s been quoted as saying, “I believe in good people. Everything else will follow.” His philosophy apparently works as the firm continues to forge successfully ahead. The perks and benefits are among the best in the profession.
