PR Boost for Dolph Lundgren – Ambasador for Marbella

Dolph Lundgren

Dolph Lundgren has been officially appointed as “Ambassador for Marbella” by the Town hall on Tuesday, Spanish News reports. Lundgren thus becomes the second Marbella Ambassador, after Alejandro Blanco, the President of the Spanish Olympic Committee. A great PR boost for the actor who is best known for his role in Rocky IV in 1985 as the imposing Russian boxer Ivan Drago.

Lundgren is loved by his Spanish fans, who are proud to have him living amongst them. The Mayor of Marbella, Angeles Muñoz, stated that it was “an authentic privilege to have neighbors as distinguished as Dolph, who could choose any place to live and has decided to be with us.” As Marbella Ambassador, Lundgren will have the privilege to promote the town and its image worldwide.

Marbella - DOLPH

This PR boost was a necessity for Dolph Lundgren, whose fame declined in the past years. As a matter of fact I doubt that the actor has any PR representative whatsoever, or if he does, the approach to promote the Dolph Lundgren brand is outdated, poorly crafted and careless. A look at the official Dolph Lundgren website is self-explanatory: amateurish design; cheap commercial message. Sure, any Dolph Lundgren fan would like to and win a private training session with Dolph himself, but I would expect more from an official site than a link to a Facebook trivia game.

Dolph Lundgren

At least Dolph’s marketing gurus heard about Facebook, but transforming a his official site into a sales-pitch for Command Performance is a very uninspired move. The site should appeal to the young generation of fans, as well as it does to the older fans who don’t mind (and don’t care about) a web 1.0 approach to online branding.

The official site should also present the man who graduated from the Royal Institute of Technology and has a master’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Sydney; the man who speaks over five languages: Swedish, English, German, French, Spanish, some Japanese, and some Italian. Incredible, isn’t it?

Did you know this about Dolph Lundgren, or did you think he was just another muscle pack ready to kick some bad-ass? So what about taking advantage of this new honor and actually starting to do something worthwhile to promote the man who, aside Arnold Schwarzenegger, Silvester Stallone and Jean-Claude Van Damme is considered to be one of the greatest action heroes of our time? What about taking the time to improve that official website to reflect Dolph’s career and his persona?

Lundgren has been represented for many years by Rogers & Cowan.
