Canada Tells America It's Great: A Happy PR Campaign

As our Presidential campaign continues, there have been a lot of doom and gloom feelings and predictions. One of Trump’s campaign slogans has been “Make America Great Again.” Some declare we still are, while others are terrified about the possibilities of conflicts in the Middle East, the Supreme Court turn-over, whether Roe v. Wade will be overturned, and the staggering national debt. It’s a lot to think about. That isn’t helped by the negativity of the campaigns either.

So what do our neighbors to the north decide to do with the help of The Garden, a PR agency based in Toronto? The agency developed a PR campaign asking Canadians to think of what they like about America and share that in videos. The Garden then compiled several of the videos they received into a video lasting just under one and a half minutes. So far it has received nearly 1.5 million views on YouTube.

What do some of them mention? They mention our national parks, music, inventing the internet, humanitarian systems, diversity and openness, and activism to name just a few. Who doesn’t love a good compliment? As we approach the first Tuesday in November, it’s just a nice reminder that the world is more than doom and gloom and that feeling sometimes rolling over the nation that it doesn’t matter which person is elected, we’re going to hell in a handbasket either way.

So maybe it’s time for us to say, “Thank you Canada for reminding us that life goes on and it is good.” We should also say thank you to a PR firm who isn’t covering something up for their candidate or leaving us with a feeling of conspiracy against the American people. Instead, The Garden used their understanding of what some consider the “dark arts” to bring smiles to our faces and remind us we have a lot going for us already.

Can we do better? Yes, of course. Will there be some tough times ahead (no matter who wins or loses)? Also, yes. But it’s just plain refreshing to be reminded that there is much good here already. Thanks, Canada, and thanks to The Garden for taking the time to show appreciation and remind us of the good to be found every day in our country.
