Motorola Launches Defy Smart Phone on Oprah Season Premiere

Motorola Defy

Motorola’s new Android-based smart phone, Defy, will be officially launched on 25th season premiere of “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” Described by PCWorld as a “rugged new Android phone in town”, due to its durable, rugged protective shell, Defy will run on T-Mobile’s network, a doubtful choice when coverage and signal strength are less impressive than those of other US carriers.

“Motorola DEFY is scratch and water resistant as well as dust proof, protecting you from life’s little challenges such as a sudden rain shower to a drop in the sand,” according to a company statement.

To complement the much advertised durability, Defy also features a 5-megapixel camera with flash and digital zoom, a 3.7-inch WVGA (854-by-480) touchscreen and a Web browser with Adobe Flash Lite. Although Motorola hasn’t specifically stated which Android version the phone comes with, the lack of Froyo and Flash Player 10.1 points to Android 2.1, not the latest 2.2 version.

The price for Defy which competes with Apple’s iPhone, Samsung’s Galaxy series and other Android-based smart phones is yet to be revealed. But the new Motorola smart phone should be available along with its price tag in time for the winter holidays.

The Public Relations team for Motorola externally is made of agencies Fleishman Hillard, Edelman, Hunter PR & Weber-Shandwick.
