New York Town Secretly Hires PR Help

Sometimes getting professional help is a good move, and sometimes, not so much. Hoosick Falls, NY, hired Behan Communications, a local PR firm that has represented General Electric (GE) over the years regarding pollution in the area, to help with “general PR” assistance. That happened at the end of 2015, and when the local population learned about it, they were not happy. The problem started when the officials failed to warn local residents about the drinking water being contaminated with a toxic chemical. Then they didn’t tell the people about hiring the PR agency to deal with the fall-out.

They did that by having their law firm, FitzGerald Morris Baker Firth, hire Behan on their behalf. The PR situation was discovered as questions arose about work done by the law firm. The locals now want access to the information provided by Behan to the law firm, the law firm claims it’s attorney-client privileged, but the town people disagree.
