Elon Musk Faces His Latest PR Challenge

Elon Musk gets political

It seemed too good to be true.  “I’m feeling generous because of Covid-19,” entrepreneur and innovator Elon Musk announced on Twitter this week, “I’ll double any BTC payment sent to my BTC address for the next hour. Good luck, and stay safe out there!” As COVID-19 continues to disrupt daily life and ravage the global economy, the message from Musk was deemed plausible by many. In addition to being the face of global technology giants Tesla and SpaceX, Elon Musk has garnered a reputation for outlandish and erratic behaviour online. A Bitcoin giveaway fit the bill.  As it turned out,... Read More >

Ohio Speaker Arrested in Bribery Case

2020-07-29 by JamesD
Mid- Ohio

Larry Householder, Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives, is on the hot seat after being arrested as part of an investigation into a massive federal bribery case. After two Ohio-based nuclear power plants were part of a taxpayer-funded bailout, federal investigators opened an investigation that led to the arrest of Householder and four of his political associates. The US Attorney assigned to the case called it “likely the largest bribery and money-laundering scheme that’s ever been perpetrated against the people of the state of Ohio.” Almost immediately, Ohio’s governor, Mike DeWine, called on his colleague to “resign immediately,” adding... Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard 1

Last week, celebrity and lifestyle media were riveted to the ongoing legal disputes between actors Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Now divorced, the two are in court, each claiming the other was abusive during their short, turbulent marriage. Early in the proceedings, Depp and other witnesses testified that Heard was mentally and physically abusive. Finally, Heard, who initiated all of this by repeatedly accusing Depp of violence, took the stand. Over multiple days of testimony, Heard dismissed any accusations of abuse made against her. While admitting that she had lashed out at Depp, it was only, in her words, to... Read More >

In response, the company has come out with a big, positive message… one that comes with a lot of zeroes. According to various media reports, Amazon plans to offer more than $500 million as a “thank you bonus” to workers who stayed with the company through the difficult month of June, when orders were up and morale was down, after the company chose to eliminate a... Brands Cannot Remain Silent

2020-07-20 by JamesD

“If everyone thought before they spoke the silence would be deafening,” said Polish author George Barzan. In the aftermath of the recent death of an African American male by a police officer and subsequent and numerous protests, a recent poll revealed that people of both white and black races felt brands should not remain silent. Global data intelligence firm Global Consult polled nearly 2,000 American adults on May 31 and June 1, following an incident in which a Minneapolis police officer was captured and seen on video with a knee pressed to the neck of George Floyd, who died at... Fox Loses Advertisers Over Carlson Remarks

2020-07-06 by JamesD

Fox News opinion anchors are known for pushing the limits to both entertain and engage their audiences. One of the most successful in recent years has been Tucker Carlson, whose deadpan delivery, often accompanied by expressions of shock and disbelief, have captured the attention of a significant nightly audience. However, recent comments by Carlson have begun to cost his Fox-based program both viewers and big-name advertisers. Brands such as Disney, Papa John’s, Poshmark, and T-Mobile, distanced themselves from connections with Carlson’s show after the host made some comments about the BLM protests that some found to be problematic. The move... Read More >

US Soccer Speaks Out About Anthem Protest Policy

2020-06-25 by JamesD

Recently, the National Football League released a statement saying that league officials mishandled the issue of players “speaking out” about “racial injustice.” Responses to the recent comments by Commissioner Roger Goodell received mixed reviews from both players and fans. However, the statement did seem to set a precedent for other professional sports leagues in how to deal with an apparent shift in sentiment regarding public protests by players. Now, another national US sports organization, US Soccer, is making public policy changes in an effort to reverse previous decisions regarding race relations and public protest. US Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone... Read More >

2020-06-18 by JamesD
Nascar OREO celebration everything-pr

Since its inception, NASCAR has been defined and influenced by its southern roots. The most storied races on the most venerated tracks are in the south, and that’s where the vast majority of the sport’s fans hailed from for decades. But, in recent years, the expansion of the fan base, along with the proliferation of extremely successful racers from outside the Deep South have gradually shifted some of the norms in the sport. But is NASCAR ready for what could be one of the most public and meaningful symbolic changes? This won’t be a tweak to the rules, adding more... Read More >
