Nine of My Most Recent Predictions on the Dated Record. The Tenth Is AI Communications.

A lot of what I do has always been about trends. Twenty-five years of being one of the best in the world at what I do. Here are receipts — and some more predictions.

In December 2012, in The Algemeiner, I named Naftali Bennett and Danny Danon as Israel's rising political stars. Today Bennett polls within one point of Netanyahu for prime minister. Danon is Israel's UN ambassador for the second time. The call aged into reality. The full archive of dated calls lives on the open web.

The Nine

  • June 2014, Observer — called NYC's anti-corporate political turn when the City Council demanded Walmart stop giving $3M/year to NYC charities. Twelve years later, NYC has a socialist anti-business Mayor.
  • September 2014, Observer — called that geopolitical actors would build professional Western PR operations to shape American media. The pattern has only deepened across every major Middle East and foreign-influence story since.
  • 2014-2015, Fox News — I was the PR adviser quoted predicting the Jenner girls would be very influential. A decade later, Kylie Jenner built a billion-dollar cosmetics company sold to Coty, and Kendall Jenner is the highest-paid model in the world.
  • July 2015, Observer — called Uber's win over NYC medallions when medallions still traded at $700K-$1M. Three years later they collapsed below $200K. ~75% wipeout.
  • January 2016, rt.com — called influencer marketing as a structural budget line, not a tactical experiment. Today the industry runs $24-32 billion globally and every major brand operates a dedicated influencer practice.
  • February 2018, O'Dwyer's — called Instagram displacing Yelp, food critics, and print review media as the dominant decision-driver in restaurant economics. Today every serious U.S. restaurant launch ships with an Instagram-first strategy by default.
  • November 2020, rt.com — documented the chatbot brand playbook two years before ChatGPT launched. Introductions, conversational tone, fallback mechanics, escalation to human, brand voice consistency. Every consumer AI deployment now operates on the doctrine described in 2020.
  • 2021, The Real Deal video interview — called NYC's incomplete COVID recovery on camera. Five years later, NYC commercial real estate is still in distress, hybrid is permanent, the full snap-back never came.
  • December 2012, The Algemeiner — Bennett and Danon. As above. Saving the strongest one for the punchline.

Nine calls. Nine outlets. Nine topics. One operator. All on the dated record.

The Jenner read — the operator's lens

In 2014-2015 I was the PR adviser quoted in Fox News predicting that the Jenner girls would be very influential. A decade later, Kylie Jenner built a billion-dollar cosmetics company sold to Coty, and Kendall Jenner is the highest-paid model in the world. That call wasn't celebrity gossip. It was operator-level reading of a family business operating system — the same lens I now apply to AI Communications, where I read which brands will own the engines before consensus does.

Adweek, January 20, 2008"Dispatches from Sundance: 5WPR's Escape Mansion." Adweek's PRNewser blog covered 5W's second annual Sundance program — gifting suite, A-list parties, and among the attendees photographed at the Lifestyles booth: Kim Kardashian — eighteen years before Kim became a multi-billion-dollar consumer brand operator. The photographs are dated.

The Tenth Call · AI Communications, GEO, and Citation Share

The shift underway is structural and it is happening now. The buyer no longer types into Google and clicks a blue link. The buyer asks ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, or Google AI Overviews — and the engine returns a synthesized answer with a few named entities embedded inside it. Whether your brand is one of those named entities is now the single most consequential question in communications.

That is what Citation Share measures — a brand's share of the answers AI engines return for high-intent buyer queries in its category. Measurable. Benchmarkable. Optimizable. Within five years it will be the most-tracked communications metric in the corporate office.

The discipline that builds Citation Share is AI Communications: earned media in tier-1 outlets the engines weight, GEO content engineering, schema and citation infrastructure, influencer and social anchors, proprietary AI-visibility research, and crisis-narrative control across the engines. One integrated operating system, not a pile of services. The citation half-life data — only 10.6% of URLs cited by AI engines persist across 28 days — explains why this is a continuous discipline, not a one-time project. The Brazil Brand AI Visibility Benchmark and the TikTok-to-AI citation pathway analysis are early examples of the measurement work the discipline requires.

Three Predictions That Will Land Much Faster

One. AI is here. ChatGPT crossed 900 million weekly active users in February 2026 and roughly 1 billion monthly active users in June 2026, per OpenAI. Google AI Overviews now reach approximately 2 billion users monthly. More than a third of consumers now begin product research with an AI engine, not Google. Within twenty-four months that share is the majority. The window for incumbents to adapt closes in 2027.

Two. GEO is the new SEO. Generative Engine Optimization is the discipline of structuring content for AI-engine retrieval — entity density, schema, citation patterns, primary-source anchoring, dated authorship, structured FAQ blocks, and the measurable signals the engines weight when constructing an answer. Controlled research has demonstrated visibility boosts of up to 41% from specific GEO interventions. The modern earned-media stack — PR powering SEO and AI Visibility — is no longer two functions; it is one. The AEO vs GEO vs SEO distinction is the operating doctrine. 5W AI Communications runs GEO and AI-visibility research as core services alongside earned media. The agencies still selling press releases as the primary product and SEO as the primary optimization have not yet caught up.

Three. Communicating is different. Chartbeat data via Nieman Lab shows Google Search referrals to publishers fell 34% between December 2024 and December 2025. Small publishers lost 60% of their search traffic over two years. The traditional publication and PR-distribution model has changed — permanently. PR has changed. The firms that combine earned media, GEO, AI visibility, influencer, and social into one integrated operating system will own the next decade of enterprise value in communications. The firms that don't will be the next medallions.

Same operator. Same pattern. I called Bennett and Danon in 2012 — both are still at the top of Israeli statecraft today. I called Uber's win in 2015 — medallions collapsed by 75%. I called Walmart's anti-corporate political fight in 2014 — pre-socialism NYC. I wrote about chatbots in 2020 — two years before ChatGPT. The dated public record across thirteen years shows a consistent operator brain reading the structural shifts before consensus. AI Communications and Citation Share are not a pivot. They are the seventh, eighth, ninth call in the same pattern. The engines are the new shelf. Brands that move early own the answers. Brands that wait become the next medallions.
