The Western Golf Association (WGA), proud organizer of the 2012 BMW Championship, has announced Indianapolis-based Dittoe Public Relations as its new PR agency following what it termed a “competitive selection process”.
Dittoe Public Relations is set to represent the WGA as it stages what will be the largest golfing event to take place in Indianapolis since it hosted the 1991 PGA Championship at Crooked Stick.
The BMW Championship will be the third stage out of four events in the PGA Tour, and will bring together more than 70 top international golfers to battle it out for an $8 million purse and a place in the FedExCup playoff finale.
In a press release, Vince Pellegrino, WGA’s vice-president for tournaments, announced his delight at agreeing the partnership with Dittoe Public Relations, acknowledging that the WGA would benefit immensely from the PR firm’s vast experience in dealing with national media interest:
“For an event of this prominence and magnitude, we need an experienced team of public relations professionals to assist us with generating media interest on a local, statewide and national level. We are confident in Dittoe Public Relations’ ability to deliver consistent and effective media coverage that will result in increased awareness for the 2012 BMW Championship.”
Pellegrino’s delight was matched by Chris Dittoe (below right), co-founder and president of Dittoe Public Relations, who revealed he was looking forward to helping the WGA to exceed its public relations goals:
“Our firm is focused on delivering a higher level of service and greater results for our clients, and we do whatever it takes to get the job done.”
Based in Golf, Illinois, the WGA is widely acclaimed for staging some of the most prestigious golf tournaments in North America. Until now, the association has successfully staged more than 300 championship golf events involving both professional and amateur level golfers from around the world. Three national golf championships are conducted by the WGA each year – the PGA Tour’s BMW Championship, the Western Junior Championship and the Western Amateur Championship. This year’s BMW event will take place at Indianapolis’ Crooked Stick Golf Club.
WGA is also famous for its promotion of the use of caddies in the sport – as part of this effort, it supports the Evans Scholars Foundation which provides assistance in the form of scholarships to caddies.
