The Fortune 500 Companies Hiring Generative Engine Optimization Managers in 2026

Citizens Bank is paying up to $171,000. Amazon Web Services, Home Depot, JPMorgan Chase, Capital One, Palo Alto Networks, Texas Instruments, and OneMain Financial are all hiring for the same discipline. This is what the AI Communications labor market looks like in 2026.

Generative Engine Optimization jobs — the discipline of winning brand visibility inside ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, and Google AI Overviews — have moved from experiment to enterprise line item. Indeed lists 883 open Generative Engine Optimization postings. ZipRecruiter lists more than a thousand Answer Engine Optimization postings. Base pay for a manager-level GEO or AEO role now runs $60,000 to $200,000, with the top of the band reaching $171,000 at Citizens Bank. Below is the list of named employers hiring right now, with titles, locations, and salary bands where posted.

Citizens Bank — Answer Engine Optimization Manager

Salary: $131,000 – $171,000 plus bonus. Location: Westwood MA, Pittsburgh, New York, or Boston (4 days in-office). Reports into: Digital Content and Experience Strategy.

Citizens is building an Answer Engine Optimization Center of Excellence. The role defines how the bank is discovered, interpreted, and represented across AI-driven search and answer environments — Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and emerging platforms. Named tools in the posting: Brandlight, SparkToro, Conductor, Profound. The job requires working knowledge of how LLMs evaluate content quality, authority, and factual consistency.

Amazon Web Services — Answer Engine Optimization Manager, AWS Search Marketing

Location: New York.

AWS is hiring an AEO Manager inside AWS Search Marketing, a companion posting to their Marketing Manager SEO role in Seattle. AWS wants developer documentation, help content, and product pages to surface as authoritative AI answers when technical buyers query the engines during evaluation.

Home Depot — Senior Manager of SEO / GEO

Location: Atlanta. Requires: 5–7 years SEO experience, proven track record advocating for SEO in a highly-matrixed environment.

Home Depot has folded GEO into the senior manager title, one of the earlier Fortune 500 hires to formalize the discipline at the manager level.

Palo Alto Networks — Director, Search Engine Optimization and Generative Engine Optimization

Location: Santa Clara, in-office.

Director-level. One of the highest-titled GEO roles posted publicly. Palo Alto has paired the discipline with traditional SEO under a single leader.

Texas Instruments — AI Visibility and Search Strategy Specialist | GEO/SEO

Location: Dallas.

The posting explicitly names "AI Visibility" in the title — the language communications firms have been using for research is now inside a Fortune 500 job description.

JPMorgan Chase — Home Lending, SEO Marketing Strategy, Senior Associate

Location: Columbus, Ohio.

The role sits inside a specific business line — Home Lending — rather than corporate marketing, a pattern regulated industries are following to keep AI-driven discovery close to the product it discovers.

Capital One — LLM Optimization Engineers

Location: Multiple, plus remote-eligible.

Capital One is hiring engineers to invent and introduce state-of-the-art LLM optimization techniques for production AI systems — the technical counterpart to the marketing-side AEO Manager. Requires six-plus years developing AI and ML algorithms.

OneMain Financial — Associate Director of SEO and Generative Engine Optimization

Location: New York. Benefits: Up to 4% matching 401(k).

The Associate Director title reflects a common enterprise pattern — GEO reporting into an existing SEO structure rather than standing alone.

FirstKey Homes — Manager, Organic and AI Search Optimization

Requires: 5–8 years leading SEO strategy, 2–3 years managing teams. Named platforms: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overview.

FirstKey positions the role as a unified Answer Engine Optimization and Generative Engine Optimization strategy, combining technical SEO with AI-driven discovery.

J.Jill — Senior Manager of SEO and Generative Engine Optimization

Location: Quincy, Massachusetts.

The 200-store apparel retailer wants strategies for ranking in both traditional search and generative search interfaces, entity-based SEO, and E-E-A-T optimization for AI answer engines.

Appian — SEO Manager, Expanding into GEO

The posting is explicit that Appian is looking for organic visibility strategy beyond the traditional boundaries of Appian.com as search continues to evolve toward Generative Engine Optimization.

Metagenics — Generative Engine Optimization Analyst

Location: Hoboken, New Jersey.

One of the first analyst-level GEO postings. The role includes educating internal writers, content leads, and product teams on best practices for generative answer optimization — the internal-training side of the discipline.

DTO Law — Marketing Manager (with AI Citation Share KPIs)

The law firm posting is the rare one that names AI citation share as an explicit KPI. Clients include Honda, Hyundai, Toyota, Nissan, General Motors, Costco, HP, PayPal, Unilever, Procter & Gamble. The role operates as the firm's marketing AI power user across ChatGPT, Copilot, and Claude, building custom AI skills, scheduled agents, and prompt libraries.

Contract and Agency Roles

Onward Search — AEO Manager (Contract)

$48–52 per hour W-2, roughly $100,000-plus annualized. Builds Answer Engine Optimization programs from the ground up, combining strategic vision, technical SEO expertise, and cross-functional leadership.

Eliassen Group — GEO Lead (Contract-to-Hire, Hospitality Client)

$75–80 per hour W-2. Partners with the Director of SEO on enterprise strategy for GEO across an unnamed hospitality group.

Bureau of Small Projects — AI Focused Search Optimization Expert

$50–75 per hour, contract. Explicit requirement: verified experience influencing ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and other AI agents. Fortune 500 client-servicing agency.

THAT Agency — SEO and AI Search Manager

Remote, performance-driven digital marketing agency. Full-time.

Kutir Corporation — GEO Lead

Remote. 5–8 years in SEO or digital strategy. Grounding in structured data, schema markup, entity optimization, and API integration.

What GEO and AEO Managers Are Being Paid in 2026

Aggregated compensation data across the postings:

  • Manager level: $100,000 – $171,000 base, plus bonus.
  • Director / Senior Manager level: $140,000 – $200,000-plus base.
  • Analyst / Associate level: $60,000 – $95,000 base.
  • Contract W-2: $48 – $80 per hour.
  • ZipRecruiter reports the U.S. average for Answer Engine Optimization roles at $59.65 per hour, with most workers earning $43.27 to $73.56 per hour.

The Tools Fortune 500 GEO Postings Actually Name

Named platforms candidates are expected to know: Profound, Brandlight, SparkToro, Conductor, Peec AI, Otterly AI, Writesonic, Semrush AI module, Google Search Console, GA4. Profound raised a $96 million Series C at a $1 billion valuation in February 2026, led by Lightspeed Venture Partners with Sequoia Capital and Kleiner Perkins. The tooling category has unicorns before the labor category has a textbook.

The Sources GEO Depends On Are Not Being Hired For

AI engines cite sources. According to Profound's February 2026 citation study, LinkedIn is the number one most-cited domain for professional queries across all AI search platforms. Wikipedia and Reddit sit at the top of the source stack for consumer and general queries. Every AEO Manager listed above depends on these sources to move their dashboards.

There is no Fortune 500 posting for a Director of Wikipedia Strategy. There is no Fortune 500 posting for a Head of Reddit. The Wikimedia Foundation itself hires (Movement Communications Specialist, Director of People Transformation, remote). Beyond that, Wikipedia work sits on Freelancer.com with 37,516 client reviews. ZipRecruiter puts the average California hourly rate at $21.73. Reddit work sits on ZipRecruiter and Upwork at $21 to $79 per hour — community engagement specialists, subreddit growth contractors, Reddit posting virtual assistants.

The wrapper (GEO) is capitalized. The sources the wrapper depends on (Wikipedia, Reddit, Wikidata, publisher relationships) are gig work. This is the arbitrage sitting inside every AEO budget line at Citizens, AWS, Home Depot, and JPMorgan.

What the Labor Market Is Signaling

First: the enterprise buyer is now hiring GEO in-house. The agency conversation moves from "you need this" to "you need someone who has done the sources side at scale."

Second: the tooling category is capitalizing ahead of the labor category. Dashboards exist before the workforce that reads them.

Third: the source layer is a labor arbitrage waiting to be organized. Wikipedia at $21 an hour and Reddit at $21 to $79 an hour do not stay at those prices once a Fortune 500 marketing budget discovers those are the inputs that decide whether the $171,000 AEO Manager's dashboards move.

Fourth: the communications schools are behind. Newhouse, Annenberg, and Medill do not have standing GEO curricula. Graduates walking into agencies with AEO retainers cannot read the dashboards or name the tools.

The Title That Has Not Been Posted Yet

The first Fortune 500 posting for a Director of AI Source Strategy — owning Wikipedia, Reddit, Wikidata, and publisher relationships as a single portfolio — will land inside the next twelve to eighteen months. When it appears, the category is finished forming. Until then, the labor market is telling communications firms exactly where the next wave of enterprise budget is heading. Read the postings accordingly.
