LeapFrog Enterprises, Inc. announced today that it has entered into a partnership with Sesame Workshop to bring Sesame Street to the LeapPad learning tablet for children. Starting in June, Sesame Street will be available for purchase from the LeapFrog App Center.
Sesame Workshop is the non-profit education organization behind Sesame Street and will make episodes of the show available for download from the most recent season of the show. This season, the show has focused primarily on a science-based educational curriculum. Some of the celebrity guests include Wanda Sykes, Will.i.am, and Julie Bowen.
“Sesame Workshop has been a true pioneer in early childhood educational media for more than 40 years. Millions of children have grown up learning and laughing with stories and songs featuring beloved Sesame Street friends Elmo, Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch,” said Jill Waller, vice president of multimedia learning at LeapFrog.
The goals include helping children develop their reasoning skills and emotional development, promote curiosity and exploration, and explore learning while enjoying the company of the Sesame Street friends they have come to love, including Elmo, Abby, Bert, Ernie, Big Bird, and many others.
Starting June 19, 2012, parents can purchase episodes for their children for $5 through the App Center using the LeapPad, which retails for $99.99, or the Leapster Explorer, with a list price of $69.99.
