The NY Post’s Page Six reported today that MWW PR has acquired Berk Communications, a boutique independent entertainment PR agency headquartered in New York City. As profiled on Everything PR a few weeks ago, Ron Berkowitz’s Berk Communications represents Jay Z, Alex Rodriguez & a number of other celebrities.
MWW PR Group has been extensively covered in the NY Post over the last few months – multiple Page 6 mentions although those are likely to go down with the firing of Anthony Weiner. What is not likely to go down, however is CEO Michael Kempner’s support for Hillary Clinton. A September 24th fundraiser at his home reportedly raised around $500,000 for Ms. Clinton’s presidential bid.
This isn’t the first time MWW has attempted a foray into the entertainment arena – in 2012 they announced a partnership with Kevin Liles, the former President of Def Jam Music Group and executive vice president of Warner Music Group to build out an entertainment practice – nothing has been heard about that for a few years.
While we wish MWW PR well with this venture, it is very hard for entertainment publicists – used to billing $4-$6K a month – to integrate successfully into a full-service Public Relations firm. Perhaps Berkowitz’s team can help on Tidal PR where it is believed the two agencies first collaborated.
